Autism Resourced Provision
Hudson Primary School is a mainstream primary school with four specialist Autism Resourced Provision bases, providing up to 36 places for children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) whose primary area of need is autism. Places are allocated through Sefton Council’s SEND processes.
Our Autism Resourced Provision is an integral part of our school community. We aim to provide specialist support and expertise while ensuring that children are valued as members of the wider Hudson community. We believe that high-quality specialist provision and genuine inclusion go hand in hand.
Our Vision
Working within Hudson Primary School’s vision of “Everyone experiences excellence”, our Autism Resourced Provision aims to place each child at the centre of their learning, development and future aspirations.
We provide high-quality specialist education that responds to the individual strengths, needs, interests and aspirations of autistic pupils. We recognise that every child is different and work closely with pupils, families, school staff and professionals to create the conditions in which each child can flourish.
Our aim is for every pupil to develop the communication, independence, confidence, resilience, knowledge and skills they need to enjoy school, participate in their community and prepare for their next stage of education and adult life.
Our Values and Objectives
Our provision is built around a person-centred, respectful and ambitious approach. We aim to:
-
Put each child at the centre of their education and listen carefully to their voice, preferences, strengths and aspirations.
-
Recognise that autistic pupils have the same rights, opportunities and entitlement to an excellent education as all other pupils.
-
Know each pupil as an individual and provide support that respects their dignity, identity and individuality.
-
Provide a safe, caring, warm and stimulating environment in which children feel secure and ready to learn.
-
Build on strengths, interests and successes, celebrating achievements and recognising each pupil’s contribution to school life and the wider community.
-
Develop communication, social understanding, emotional regulation, independence and self-advocacy alongside academic learning.

-
Support pupils to develop increasing responsibility for themselves, their learning, their choices and their behaviour.

Make reasonable adjustments and use appropriate specialist approaches, resources and environments to reduce barriers to learning.

Work closely with parents and carers, recognising their knowledge and expertise and ensuring that families are active partners in their child’s education.
-
Work collaboratively with relevant professionals and services to provide joined-up support around the child.

Promote inclusion and belonging across the whole school, enabling pupils to participate in mainstream lessons, assemblies, clubs, enrichment, trips, performances and wider school life where this is appropriate for the individual pupil.
-
Support meaningful opportunities for pupils to develop relationships and friendships with their mainstream peers.
-
Develop pupils’ ability to participate in the wider community and prepare for successful transitions between stages of education and towards adulthood.

Continually develop our provision through reflection, professional development, collaboration and quality assurance.
A Specialist Provision Within a Mainstream School
Our four Autism Resourced Provision bases are an important part of Hudson Primary School. Pupils have access to specialist environments, staffing and approaches while also being part of the wider school community.
The level of integration and participation in mainstream classes and activities is considered individually for each pupil, taking account of their needs, strengths, interests, EHCP outcomes and readiness. We want every child to experience belonging, develop their independence and have meaningful opportunities to learn and succeed alongside their peers.
Our approach is not about fitting every child into the same model. It is about understanding what each child needs to flourish and providing the right balance of specialist support, challenge, independence and inclusion.
Curriculum and Learning
Children in our Autism Resourced Provision follow an ambitious curriculum that is adapted to their individual needs. Alongside the National Curriculum, we place particular emphasis on:
-
Communication and language
-
Social interaction and understanding
-
Emotional regulation and wellbeing
-
Self-awareness and self-advocacy
-
Independence and life skills
-
Flexibility and problem-solving
-
English and mathematics
-
Physical development and healthy lifestyles
-
Preparation for transition and future life

Working in Partnership
We believe that the strongest outcomes are achieved when children, families, school staff and professionals work together.
We maintain regular communication with families, involve pupils in decisions about their education wherever possible, and use EHCP outcomes, assessment, observation and family and pupil voice to review provision and progress.
Our Autism Resourced Provision continues to develop through professional learning, reflection, collaboration and a commitment to ensuring that every pupil experiences excellence.
